Happy Halloween from the little mermaid (Brix).......October 30, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: Previews![]() Random mermaid bottom found at a thrift store - $0.50!
Blanket - $5.00
Shells - FREE (Brix's mom just happened to have some!)
Having your 8 day old baby girl in a makeshift Halloween costume (and looking frickin' ADORABLE!) in all of a few minutes......PRICELESS :)
Yep, I found that mermaid tail at a thrift store last year for 50 cents!!...but totally forgot about it. As I was gathering my props for Brix's newborn shoot, I found it and knew I HAD to try it out since Halloween was coming up. Since I found it so late, I didn't have a chance to go out and buy some shells.....but I asked Brix's mama if she happened to have any....and by golly she DID!...and whole bag even!! They live just a few blocks from the beach, so I figured they might ;) It was too cold to shoot (topless hehe) outside and that blanket was the only one that somewhat went with the theme (since it's a sand color), but we made do with what we had and went for it. Anyway, this isn't my normal kind of shot.... a little too portrait studio/prop-ish for my taste, but you have noooo idea how hard it was to snap a shot before the shells fell off (which was pretty much instantly) and before Brix cried after daddy removed his finger from her mouth (hence the kissy lips) LOL :)
Happy Halloween everyone! :)
We hope this Halloween leaves you HUNGRY for more!!October 29, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: My LifeMy DOUBLE "cheese" burger :)

A little bit about this shoot.......
I had a "fabulous" idea for this shoot planned out for months. My original idea was to lay out a red picnic style tablecloth (that I found in the $1 section at Target) on the grass and have PJ and the pups lay on it and take the shot from above. It would have been AWESOME, but being short on time, behind on editing (thanks to my back going out on me last week), having a sick husband (who told me I was CRAZY for even thinking I could get that shot) and 3 crazy subjects......well yeah, I had to scratch that idea. Instead we went out front for 5 minutes and ummm....for once (ha!), my husband was right (eww, did I just admit that!?). What the hell was I thinking?? There is NO way I could have gotten PJ, Macy and Zoe to A) stay on the blanket, B) actually somewhat look at me, C) Have PJ make it out alive after being stepped on, licked, scratched to death by Zoe (or just killed alone with Macy's horrible rotten fish breath!), D) Have PJ actually be happy after letter C ;) So ok, fine Mark, you win this time! Everyone else.....I hope you at least got a good laugh out of these pics. None were really what I was hoping for, but yes dear blog readers....I tortured my kid and dogs purely for your enjoyment. So you better be laughing or smiling! ;)
Have a wonderful and safe Halloween weekend everyone!
Love photography? Looking to learn more?October 29, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: My LifeA few months back I joined an online community that I had heard about from a few other photographer friends. It's a private community that has a wealth of knowledge for moms (well women in general) who are just looking to take better photos, looking to start a photography biz (and trust me, they are popping up by the day!) or those who already have successful businesses. Oh and before I forget to mention it, you don't HAVE to be a mom to join...there are quite a few ladies on the board who just love photography and love the board (and there might even be a few men on there as well!). There is a small fee to join, but I promise you that it is worth every penny. There are so many tutorials (shooting in manual, how to edit, how to make color pop, how to pose people, where to purchase props, etc.), as well as answers to basically anything you can think of (how much to charge, what to offer, where to have prints made, does this photo suck?? (haha), etc). So anyway, i've already mentioned this site to some awesome blog readers who have emailed me (and flattered me to death) to ask questions and are looking to learn more. This is the place to go! To join, just click on the banner below and sign up under the "join" link! Trust me....you'll love it! I hope to see you over there!......... 5 times in a little over 2 years!October 28, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: PressMy first shoot with Elijah was for his 1st birthday (in August of 2007 - just a few weeks after Lot116 launched!). I've done his 1 year photos, 2 year photos, their family photos last year, his 3 year photos (just a few months ago - http://www.lot116.com/blog.php?id=468) and I just did their family photos again! I have literally watched this little boy grow up.....and I love it! :) As I mentioned a few posts back, I won't be posting many family photos (so that I don't ruin any holiday card surprises), but i'll post a few that are still cute, but most likely won't be used for cards.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Unexpected surprises......October 28, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: PreviewsSometimes as I go through images, I get unexpected surprises. I was going through some of the last images from the Bumbleride shoot and came across one that pulled me to it. This little guy wasn't really part of the shoot, he was just along for the ride since his baby sister was in the shoot. While we were shooting, he was running around with the older kids. I happened to turn around, saw him and fired off this photo. Luckily for me (since I shoot in manual), the settings happened to be perfect and I got the shot. The weather that day was really odd. It was overcast and cloudy, but the sun would pierce through the clouds very harshly from time to time. Anyway, just thought I would share since I love it.......
![]() P.S - Be sure to check back (hungry) tomorrow for an early Halloween post ;)
