Faith (age 5) and Mason (9 months).............

May 14, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: Previews

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of photographing Faith, Mason and their parents.  Mason had only napped for about 30 minutes, but was still in a great mood and didn't cry once. He was super mellow (and adorably chubby)! Although the shoot was primarily for Mason, Faith decided to steal the show. The funny part is that for the months leading up to this shoot, their mom had told me that Faith was "the most unnatural poser" who "once was told by a photographer to smile.....and she replied "I don't know how to smile!""  Well Faith proved everyone wrong!  I deemed her "The Giggle Monster"....which made her giggle even more! She giggled like crazy the entire time and talked and talked and talked....and talked some more. ;)  I assumed this was how she always is, but when I got home I had this email in my inbox from their mom:

Julie,

Thanks for the pleasant photo session.  Steve says you seem most genuine of all the professional photographers we've met (he's just too shy to tell you in person!) & Faith says "it wasn't as fun as she thought. It was A LOT of fun!"  She loved you!  As hard to believe as it may be, Faith's usually very, very shy!  It was a whole new side of her I saw. :)

Thanks again,
N

That totally made my day :) To know that I was able to break her shell and show her parents a new side of her just feels awesome.  I can truly say that my job is one of the most rewarding jobs out there. I love getting home and going through the images to see what I captured...and I love getting wonderful emails like that.

I'll start with one of my very favorites from the day (this was actually the very last shot I snapped). I was all packed up and ready to head out when Faith said "Oh! My sunglasses!". I asked if she wanted some photos of her wearing her sunglasses and she said "ummm ok!".  What a complete rock star (although if you ask her, she'll say "I'm not a rock star! I want to be a princess!") ;) ........

Oh those cheeks :) ......

This one melts my heart because it shows just how much mommy loves her kids. I didn't ask her to kiss them.....she just did. Normally people are trying too hard to "pose" and look at the camera even if I tell them to just have fun and do whatever.  This is what true love is......

America's Next Top Model for sure........

The giggle monster in action..........

Happy (very) early Father's Day Steve! You are a lucky man :)

My next shoots are on Saturday and Sunday, so check back next week (most likely Mon/Tues) for more sneak peeks!

The cherry on top of my Mother's Day........

May 11, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: Press

Yesterday was awesome. I woke up to breakfast in bed, followed by a bunch of adorable handmade gifts from PJ.  Before we headed up to spend the day with our families up in Temecula, we decided to grab the mail since it had been a few days since we last grabbed it.   Amongst some deposits, a birthday party invite, some bills and junk mail was an envelope with the Nickelodeon logo on it.  I had received an email about a month ago which made me very happy....but it was one of those things where you think "Ok, i'll believe it when I see it".  Yesterday I received the proof I needed to believe......

Enclosed was a letter announcing that.....
I am a nominee for the "2009 Nickelodeon Parent's Picks Award" in the "Best San Diego Family Photographer" category!

Wow.....just wow :)  Of course I would LOVE to win, but just being nominated alone makes me more than happy :)

Please note that you can vote **DAILY** from NOW until JULY 15th, so if you'd like to vote for me daily, I would truly appreciate it!!  :)  The letter said the start date would be May 15th, but everything online shows May 5th, so I think it was just a typo in the letter.

THANK YOU!!!

Keira (age 2) and Kailey (8 months)............

May 10, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: Previews

Saturday was the gloomiest morning ever, but we headed out to play anyway. Keira is 2 and like most 2 year olds, she was pretty much gone the entire shoot. She was more worried about playing and "riding horsey" than me ;)  Kailey is almost 8 months old and was very much a mommy's girl. She wanted to be held almost the entire time, and like her mama had mentioned before....she hates the grass. Turns out she wasn't very fond of concrete that day either ;) It was definitely a challenging shoot, but I still managed to sneak in some cute shots.

This photo pretty much sums up most of the shoot.....Keira running by or purposely blocking Kailey....and Kailey unhappy that she wasn't in mama's arms ;)  It cracks me up...and I love it :)

One of the many reasons I love being a mom..........

May 09, 2009 | Posted by: Julie Cruz | Category: My Life

.......is finding things like this........

I dropped PJ off at preschool the other day and headed back home to work. When I went in her room to open up her blinds, I found "Buns Buns" so perfectly tucked into bed (yes, the bed might look familiar since some of my newborn props double as toys).  Little things like this remind me of just how awesome it is to be a mom. The fact that she scoured her room to find that Hello Kitty pillow (lord knows where the heck that was) and used one of "her" blankies (the one she had just woken up with) so that Buns Buns would be comfy, is the sweetest thing.  She will be an amazing mother one day. Hopefully not for another 21+ years or so!!......but still :)

Happy Mothers Day to all of the wonderful mommies out there!!

I'm going to enjoy and ENTIRE day off, so check back on Monday for sneak peeks  :)
